Goodman’s Countering the Culture of Sex In this article I will talk about the adequacy of Goodman’s Countering the Culture of Sex. I will contend Goodman’s convictions on sex and alerts she specifies through the content on underage/unprotected sex, the encounters I have seen and experienced; and how that impacts my convictions, and propose a few things that could have made this contention all the more persuading to the target group. Countering the Culture of Sex persuades one to change their convictions on pre-marriage sex and unprotected sex on the grounds that the contentions made depend on truth and different suppositions and real factors. Goodman makes numerous viable focuses. She has proof to back up her feelings. Acquiring the Madonna melody â€Å"Papa Don’t Preach† and relating it to genuine circumstances and how the music can be an impact to its audience members. Madonna’s verses to the tune, â€Å"The one you cautioned me about, the one you said I could manage without, we're in a dreadful chaos, and I don't mean perhaps †please†, make you consider the things that can occur. College Is It Worth It

? School †Is it Worth it? At this moment in our general public college degree is not, at this point an alternative or benefit, but instead a need. We are basically raised and molded to accept that one needs advanced education so as to prevail throughout everyday life. There is a truism that says â€Å"if you think training is costly, attempt obliviousness. † But as innovation is continually progressing and PCs are running nearly anything, is an advanced degree extremely important? There are individuals who have never gone to a school and are showing improvement over individuals who have their graduate degree. There are sees from the two sides that contain a legitimate contention. The primary motivation behind why individuals set off for college isn't on the grounds that they need to but since they need to. Generally eleventh and twelfth graders are constrained by their folks to attend a university since it is â€Å"the right activity. â€Å"† In the article that Caroline Bird composed â€Å"College is a Waste of Time and Money†, she expresses that understudies set off for college on the grounds that † . . . Mother needed them to go, or some other explanation totally unessential to the course of studies for which school is as far as anyone knows sorted out. The understudy may have various thoughts regarding what the person in question needs to do throughout everyday life, but since they believe that their folks recognize what is best for them, they likely wind up accomplishing something they would prefer not to do, bringing about being hopeless and angry. Let's be hone st, heading off to college is socially lofty. A great many people head off to college just for the title of being known as an undergrad. For some youngsters, it is an agile method to escape from home and become free without losing the budgetary help of their folks. They would prefer not to be looked downward on so they do what might look at â€Å"best without flinching of society†. It is for all intents and purposes beat into our heads that so as to be a decent resident of society, you ought to have a type of college instruction. Being an understudy is maybe a more decent job than being, for instance, a representative or a trash collector on account of the negative meanings such occupations get. Attending a university and getting a degree doesn't really ensure that an individual will find a new line of work directly after graduation. It is hard out there for late alumni to get a decent line of work since there is such a great amount of rivalry because of the madly expanding quantities of our populace and a wildrace for the lions share in each field. Regardless of whether they do find a new line of work, it is normally not in what they got their degree for. Numerous undergrads would feel that school is a misuse of cash since they don't realize what they need to. Rather they need to take classes that have near nothing to do with their major however are just taking these classes so as to satisfy a general instructive necessity. Upon graduation, some vibe that they are off guard since additional time could have been spent on learning more inside their field of study and less on unessential materials. Presently for the aces of having an expert advanced degree. The significant explanation of attending a university is, obviously, to find a decent line of work. School sets us up with scholastic information so as to prevail later on. As per Ernest Boyner advanced education is fundamental for groundwork for one's future. He expresses that: In spatial terms, educating and learning may start in a study hall, however course work likewise overflows into the life of the grounds and the network. Understudies participate in experimential learning and co-curricular exercises that take unique thoughts and stay them, in actuality, issues. As the opposition to find a better than average line of work is expanding, it is near difficult to get a lucrative occupation without in any event a four year certification. Numerous employments that lone used to need their laborers to have a secondary school recognition currently require some advanced degree because of their very convoluted nature. Another way school merits the cash, in any case, is on the grounds that it is one of only a handful barely any foundations that regularly contains individuals of various ethnic and racial foundations. Such a circumstance permits one to build up their social and informative abilities since they are presented to new societies. This is essential for the way that an individual wouldn't like to seem to be oblivious towards a specific culture. This just, notwithstanding, proves to be useful when you are being taught abroad. School resembles a venturing stone to turning into a capable grown-up on the grounds that just because the vast majority are basically all alone (that would incorporate me). It is totally not quite the same as secondary school in that not just that school must be managed, however you need to shuffle your own time and money related state also. They leave to school and face conditions that they would probably run over when they at long last go all alone. Bills must be paid, time must be overseen productively, and cutoff times must be met, much the same as in the â€Å"real world. † College isn't just about finding a decent line of work ‘but about gaining information and expanding one's viewpoint. A ton of courses that are at school are not required for a specific major however are only there for intrigued individuals who need to become familiar with a specific subject. Bowen clarifies this by separating it into three angles: †¦ the particular objectives for the training capacity are inferred. This function†¦ is planned to enable understudies to create as people in three regards: subjective learning, by growing their insight and scholarly powers; full of feeling advancement, by upgrading their ethical, strict, and enthusiastic premiums and sensibilities; and commonsense skill, by improving their exhibition in citizenship, work, family life, buyer decision, wellbeing, and other down to earth undertakings. It is at times similarly as great to be a shrewd individual and think about a ton of things as opposed to being somebody who rakes in some serious cash. My entrance into an expressions school after a lifetime of battle of being an a-grade science understudy, had driven me to genuinely consider the multifaceted nature of this theme and what I have discovered is that school unquestionably has its upsides and downsides. In any case, I believe that school is what you think about it. It very well may be the best a great time, however just in the event that you need it to. You can take the cynical view about it and believe that school is a misuse of cash, or it very well may be taken a gander at as a difficult and energizing new outskirts that essentially will start the trend for an amazing remainder. Regardless of what I realize in this condition has been arrangement on a sorted out stage to deliver solid and confident individuls that will help improve this weakening world a spot to live in ,regardless of whether we do'nt do it conciously, what I cannot deny is that the training I recieve in this school will consistently be of priceless worth once I step out in the heartless fish-eat-fish world.

100+ Power Words to Include in Your Résumé

100+ Power Words to Include in Your Résumé Imagine that youre a hiring manager sifting through stacks of incoming résumésâ€"all using the same (or nearly the same) language. Beyond the sheer boredom of having to read them, the repetitive phrasing comes across as a résumé that has been built with a template and without any distinguishing characteristics that would make an individual stand out. With this being the norm, when one particular résumé stands out as different, its a big impact. So, the question then becomes: How can I make my résumé stand out from the rest?Oprah Winfreys advice on résumé building is the perfect answer to this question: The challenge of life, I have found, is to build a résumé that doesnt simply tell a story about what you want to be, but its a story about who you want to be.Keep that advice in mind as we go over 100+ power words to include in your résumé to set yours apart from the rest.Including power words on your résumé will help you stand out from the pack. Photo by rawpixel on Un splashCompany valuesA companys primary goal in hiring is to find a capable, talented individual that can reflect the companys values in his or her work. The most obvious way to let them know youre that individual is to take awhile to look over the companys mission statement and visionâ€"both of which are most often found on a companys website. Lets look at an example and pull some power words from it that could be included in your résumé:Christine H. is looking for a job with Boys Girls Clubs of America and goes to their website to find the company values and mission statement. In doing so, she finds the following information:MissionTo enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.VisionProvide a world-class Club Experience that assures success is within reach of every young person who enters our doors, with all members on track to graduate from high school with a plan for the future, demonstr ating good character and citizenship, and living a healthy lifestyle.Boys Girls Club of AmericaNow, to pull some power words from these statements, Christine might choose:enablereach their full potentialcaringresponsibleplan for the futuregood charactercitizenshiphealthy lifestyleFrom this list of power words, pulled straight from the target employers website, Christine can now craft her objective statement, summary, and even past job details with these words included. For example, if she has teaching experience, instead of writing something like this as a detail on her job description:Helped students with social skills and peer interactionShe could rather write:Discussed and emphasized citizenship roles and caring for their peersInstead of using a typical objective statement such as:Recent graduate seeking a job with an employer that is making a difference in the world. She could write a summary statement that has far more impact, using the power words pulled from the companys miss ion statement:Caring and forward-thinking teacher seeking a job that allows me to enable young people to become the best version of themselves and practice a healthy, responsible lifestyle. The result of changing her summary statement to reflect some of the power words noted in the companys mission statement is an automatic connection between the teacher she wants to be (remember Oprahs advice) and the teacher they are seeking.Same idea, better wordsWhile these example sentences communicate the same idea, by choosing power words from the companys mission statement, she has immediately set herself apart from the rest of the applicants and shown that she has a unique ability to meet the vision that Boys Girls Clubs of America has for its work. In doing so, shes showing that shes an ideal candidate for the position. The same thing can be done with the job description itself. Look over the language used in the job description and pull out some of the key power words. Use these words in y our summary and former job details (if they fit) and allow them to be the focus on your résumé. Obviously, you need to make sure you can back up your statements with experience. If there is a power word you have noted that you cant tie directly with your past course work or experience, its best to leave it out and find one that will easily correlate to your employment or educational history.Atypical action verbsBeyond using language from the companys mission statement and job description as power words in your résumé, unique action verbs will stand out more than the more commonly used ones such as worked, oversaw, managed, performed or did. If your job description bullet points contain these overused words, go through the list of atypical action verbs below to see if another might fit and offer a more powerful word choice. Here are some atypical résumé action verbs to consider in place of repeating the tired, overused ones that are used in everyone elses résumé:AchievedAcquir edActivatedAmendedAnalyzedAppraisedArbitratedAscertainedAssessedAttainedAuthoredBalancedBoostedBolsteredBrainstormedBuiltCentralizedChartedCoachedCommissionedCompiledConceptualizedConsolidatedConstructedConvincedCritiquedDecipheredDeliberatedDeterminedDiagnosedDirectedDraftedEducatedElicitedEmpoweredEncouragedEnrichedEvaluatedExaminedExpandedFacilitatedForecastedFormulatedFosteredFoundedGuidedIllustratedImplementedInfluencedInformedInitiatedInnovatedInspiredIntegratedInterpretedIntroducedInvestigatedJustifiedLecturedLinkedMediatedMobilizedModernizedMonitoredMotivatedMultipliedOrchestratedOrganizedOrientedPartneredPersuadedPioneeredPolishedProcuredProjectedPromotedQueriedReconciledRecruitedRefinedRehabilitatedRejuvenatedRevampedSanctionedScrutinizedShapedSpearheadedStreamlinedStrengthenedStimulatedSustainedSynthesizedTailoredTracedTransformedTransmittedUpdatedUpgradedValidatedVisualizedLets look at the difference these words can make on a typical résumé. Before using power words, C hristines job experience bullet points read like this:Performed duties such as grading and lesson planningContacted parents relating to their childs progressTaught students soft skills for the workplaceWorked with fellow teachers on curriculum development goalsAfter replacing the typical verbs with atypical action verbs, her job experience bullet points now read like this:Created lesson plans and evaluated grades to determine student progressFacilitated open communication with parents as stakeholders in their childs educational progressEmpowered students with soft skills that would enrich their career searchCollaborated with peers to integrate curriculum goals into teaching practiceImmediately, youll notice how the tasks using power words and atypical action verbs seem more important, with more personal involvement on Christines part. While both examples show the same tasks, the second one will stand out to a potential employer who is seeking someone who can empower, collaborate and create. These words have much more impact than performed, contacted, taught, and worked.Choose power words with greater impact for your résumé. Photo by Sarah Cervantes on Unsplash.Popular skillsThe modern workplace often looks vastly different than workplaces just 20 years ago. While some skills have remained in demandâ€"such as communication skills, organization skills, etc.â€"others have grown in demand only recently. For example, 10 years ago, employers didnt care whether you have social media literacy, unless you were working specifically in that field. Now, its a factor many employers consider in their new hires, especially since the effect of social media has intensified in the past decade. This article on career-building website Monster.com lists the top seven skills employers are currently looking for, in general, in new-hires:Problem solvingData analyticsSocial media literacyCreativityResilienceGood business senseWillingness to learnThese skills are power words in their own way, and including them on your résumé will help boost your chances of being hired and distinguish you from the pack. Obviously, employers from different sectors will list other skills that are needed to fulfill the job role. However, having the core basic skills and including them on your résumé is a power play that will get you noticed, regardless of the sector to which youre applying.Final thoughtsIts important to understand that you can use every power word possible on your résumé, but if you submit it with grammar, syntax, or spelling mistakes, that power is lost. One risk you might run into in using atypical action verbs is spelling them incorrectly, so whatever words you use, make sure youve checked and then rechecked again to ensure accuracy. Also, be careful to avoid throwing in power words without knowing their meaning. This could result in using a word out of context, which will make it seem like you dont know what youre doing, and are simply using big words for the sake of using them. This will come across to your potential employer as dishonest and unprofessional, so whatever words you useâ€"understand their connotation and definition fully before doing so.

How to Calculate Student Loan Payments

HomePrivate LoansFederal LoansHow to Calculate Student Loan PaymentsThis page may contain affiliate links.Oct 30, 2019Student loan payments can sneak up on a student. After all, who really thought about what life with student loan payments would be like after college when they first borrowed the money? To help your student avoid that sinking feeling, its important to recalculate loans each semester. Here’s what you need to know to do so: How Much Will My Student Loan Payments Be Per Month? 1. Start with federal student loans issued directly to students when calculating payments Most undergraduate students can borrow up to $31,000 in total for undergraduate studies. The exception is for independent students or dependent students whose parents don’t qualify for PLUS loans and need to make up for cost of attendance differences. These undergraduates can borrow up to $57,500 for an undergraduate degree. On an annual basis, the amount a student can borrow is between $5,500 and $12,500, depending on their year in school and whether parents qualify for PLUS loans. Families can decide annually and on a semester-by-semester basis how much of the limit they’d like to accept or cancel. Use the ourstudent loan calculatorto calculate payments. Your minimum monthly payment is based on the type of loan, the amount you owe, the length of your repayment plan and your interest rate. You’ll typically have 10 to 25 years to repay federal loans entirely. Shorter lengths of repayment time or larger loans will result in higher monthly payments. To get the most accurate results in our calculator, enter your loan amounts separately with their individual interest rates and terms. You may have a mix of federal and private loans. If you don’t know how much you have in federal student loans, search for your federal loans in the National Student Loan Data System or contact your private student loan lender. The Standard 10-year Repayment Plan is by far the most popular plan for federal student loans, with 11.37 million borrowers enrolled in 2017, but that doesn’t mean it is the best plan for you. This is the default plan. Borrowers are automatically enrolled in the Standard Repayment Plan unless they choose a different one. You’ll make fixed monthly payments for 10 years. It’s a great plan if you can afford the monthly payments and the cheapest option long term because you’ll pay a lot less interest. But, if you don’t have the income to support these payments, you should enroll in one of the income-driving repayment plans. 2. Add in private student loans and potentially Parent PLUS loans One difference with private loans is that they generally have set repayment terms such as 3 years, 5 years, 10 years, or even 15 years. If the student is unsure what their repayment terms are on their private student loans, they need to contact the lender to find out payment terms and interest rates. If you cosigned for your student, then as a backup, make sure youve planned enough space in your monthly budget to make payments yourself if they can’t after graduation. When you cosign a loan, the lender sees the loan as yours as much as the student’s. And the payment history gets reported on your credit report as well as the students. 3. Consider Parent PLUS Loans When Calculating Monthly Payments While Parent PLUS loans don’t belong to the student, you should calculate your payments on these loans on a semester-by-semester basis. If you are unprepared to repay them, the student may be able to pick up a part-time job or they can apply for more scholarships. Another option is for the student to transfer to a school where you don’t have to borrow so much. The good news is, schools offer new scholarship awards in sophomore, junior, and senior year of college. Students need to check in regularly with their financial aid office and the department for their major. A student may qualify for a scholarship from their major that is only available in their 2nd or 3rd year. They can also go to the financial aid office on campus to ask about additional grant and scholarship money. Change Your College Budget When Needed Beyond applying for new scholarships, an excessive amount of student loan debt can be a signal to rebudget. Textbooks are a highly flexible expense. A member of our Paying For College Facebook group told us she spent a total of $500 on books for two master’s degrees because she was able to buy and then resll them on Amazon. In comparison, school bookstores rarely pay a good buy-back price. Plus, your school could have retired that edition of the book while another school hasn’t. Thus, the resale value could be better in a different locale. Students can get budgeting help for all aspects of their budget from the student money management department or a credit union financial counselor on campus. They may help them find ways to save on food, entertainment, or housing. For instance, a change in meal plans can save several hundred dollars per semester. Quick Tips For Calculating Student Loan Payments Each Semester Start with federal loans issued directly to students using the Repayment Estimator calculator. Understand student loans can be accepted, rejected, or canceled on a semester-by-semester basis. Gather basic information about your student’s private student loans and then call the servicer or use the Road2College calculatorto calculate monthly payments for each loan separately. Then add them up for a total monthly payment your student will be responsilble for. If you co-signed for the loan, be ready to repay these loans if your student can’t. Calculate Parent PLUS loan payments each semester. No matter which loans end up being too high, look for ways for the student to painlessly rebudget. Changing meal plans or changing the way they buy or sell textbooks alone could save the student hundreds per year. Calculating your student and your monthly student loan payments, while your student is in college, will keep you abreast of what your monthly financial commitments will be. You will have a good idea of what the future holds in terms of financial obligations, and you will be able to reassess if necessary along the way.
